We love the Netflix original series Frankie & Grace. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are style icons, and we binge watch all the episodes for the fashion as well as the great plot, jokes, and characterization. The show has a huge following with millennial women as well as older women, and it’s great to see more diversity in the media showcasing a range of ages and life experiences.
The fashions in the show were created by Allyson Fanger, an Emmy-nominated costume designer, and we love the way the looks provide insights into who the characters are and what they’re feeling. We especially love Frankie’s wild, hand-painted style. Her bohemian looks and vintage finds show that you don’t have to be a young person to rock the bohemian style, and that anyone can look wild and free with the right outfit. We were excited to see that, like us, Frankie loves wearing mesh layering pieces to add texture and dimension to her outfits.
Mesh elements are breathable and add color without weight, and we’ve carried mesh layering pieces in our collection for the past 12 years. We carry them in dot or stripe patterns in a range of colors to complement our current collection. A good mesh shirt is a staple for layering in our opinion, and a fine mesh will hold up to washing and wear for years to come. They’re bohemian but not slouchy, and they really fit the look worn by Lily Tomlin’s character.
The next time you tune into Frankie & Grace, keep an eye out for mesh! If you want to try on a mesh shirt of your own, come into our store and try one on. We promise you that you’ll love it as much as Frankie does.
