It was Trudeamania last Friday as the Prime Minister visited Downtown St. Catharines, with a special stop just doors down from the shop to our pals at Beechwood Doughnuts. The PM was in town to celebrate small business week with some of the greatest and it is no surprise that he picked James St as his main stop.
He was greeted at his first destination on St. Paul St. at Mahtay Cafe (another local fave!) by the drum line from Laura Secord Secondary School and the celebrations continued down the road to James St as people lined up 6-7 deep, huddling under umbrellas to catch a glimpse of Mr. Trudeau. There were selfies and screams of joy as the handsome leader made his way through the crowd of business owners, residents, and Trudeau fans toward the doughnut shop. James St was buzzing all morning on Friday, looking like it was Grape & Wine with the massive crowds and excitement. James St is truly the hub of the city and we continually feel so privileged to be part of this community and to occupy a place on the heart of this street. If you made it down on Friday, you just may have seen four Lousje and Beaners outside joining the crowd to get in on the excitement and catch a little Trudeau fever for ourselves. While not everyone agrees when it comes to politics, Mr. Trudeau is gaining some serious points from us for supporting small and local business and showing Canadians that buying within our own country is more important than ever.
