We are back strolling around our favourite neighbourhood spots and have found one of the greatest new additions on the block! Rescue Dogs is a handmade vegan hot dog & street fare cart that donates a portion of every sale to local animal shelters. The only 100% vegan hot dog cart in Canada, Rescue Dogs serves up meatless hot dogs, sloppy joe's and sandwiches that will make you wonder why you aren't a vegetarian.
Former band manager, KW, discovered his partner was an amazing cook so they teamed up to create this philanthropic food cart that tastes as good as it feels to support. We tried the Protein Dog (the maple bbq tempeh and spicy garlic aioli is to die for!) and also devoured a namesake Rescue Dog covered in sloppy and cheese, it is the best of both worlds! Served on handmade buns from another neighbour, Beechwood Donuts, these Dogs are like nothing you've ever tried, and you might get a little addicted like we are.
Located at the corner of James & St. Paul St. in downtown St. Catharines, you can grab a Dog from 11am-3pm on Tuesdays and 11am-6pm Wednesday through Saturday, barring any catastrophic weather. Stop by Rescue Dogs to say hi, or to read one of the witty chalkboard quotes of the day, we guarantee you won't regret it.
They love animals too, especially dogs (obviously!) so of course we couldn't miss an opportunity to bring our Charlie Dog over for an introduction and a photo opp with lunch! If we haven't made you hungry yet, check Rescue Dogs out on Instagram and Facebook for more hot dog and pet dog pics as well as all the hilarious comments. Join us in exploring downtown St. Catharines and when you do, drop by and say hi!
